BEIRUT - A one-and-a-half minute video was published on the occasion of the three-year anniversary of the Syrian conflict, showing how the life of a girl in London would be like if Britain descended into a Syria-type conflict.

The video, which closes with the phrase, “Just because it isn’t happening here, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening,” depicts the peaceful life of a young girl in London turning into chaos and panic as her family has to move from one place to another as bombs rain down on her country.

”We hope the video will resonate with members of the public, particularly those who don’t know much about the situation in Syria so they can really understand the plight of innocent Syrian children,” said Jake Lundi, Director of Brand and Communications at Save The Children.

"The message to the public is just because it’s not happening here, doesn’t mean it’s not happening."

Children make up around half of the more than 2.2 million Syrians who have fled their homeland, according to UN numbers of registered refugees.

Syria’s neighbors meanwhile estimate some three million Syrians have already left the war-ravaged country, which means around 1.5 million Syrian children are living as refugees.

Many Syrian refugee children are growing up in fractured families, and are often the household’s primary breadwinners, UNHCR said.

Over 70,000 Syrian refugee families live without fathers and over 3,700 refugee children are either unaccompanied by or separated from both parents, it said.
